Alejandro Garnacho could beat Cristiano Ronaldo record before end of season as star, 20, vows to stay at Man Utd

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO has vowed to stay at Manchester United and could now smash one of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo’s records.

The Argentine brushed off comparisons with Ronaldo as he stands on the brink of surpassing one of the Portuguese superstar’s many feats.

Yet he knows he will likely have to deal with them for as long as he remains a United player.

After all, it was Ronaldo who created the Argentinian winger’s first goal for the Red Devils back in November 2022.

And when the six-time Ballon d’Or winner left Old Trafford for the second and final time a few weeks later, the Stretford End immediately gave his song to Garnacho.

But deep down he probably would not have it any other way.

After all, this is the guy who still picks the Real Madrid legend as his greatest ever player — despite being an international team-mate of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

Garnacho posted on Instagram that he felt like he was dreaming the first time they lined up alongside each other for United at Sheriff Tiraspol.

There were even reports — which the United winger later denied — that he snubbed Messi on several occasions as their nation lifted the Copa America last year because he was such a fan of Ronaldo.

But there’s more — Garnacho nicked Ronaldo’s famous celebration after his overhead kick at Everton — and was clocked wearing some CR7-branded undies in a cup tie at Wigan last season.

So you can be sure he knows that he can get one over on his idol between now and the end of the season.

Ronaldo had 25 goal involvements in the Premier League for United before he reached the age of 21 — and after scoring in Sunday’s defeat at Brentford, Garnacho is now just one behind.

MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals and rumours from Old Trafford

New footage emerges of Alejandro Garnacho that ‘explains why Man Utd star marched down tunnel’ after being hauled off

With three more Premier League games to go before he hits the landmark birthday in July, it should be within his grasp.

Garnacho appeared relaxed in the press conference as he showed off a tattoo on his hand bearing his son Enzo’s name

He said: “I’m not focused on the numbers.

“When Cristiano played here, he was a different footballer and there were different types of games.

“I just try to help the team and win games.

“With the missed chances and things, we are training really hard, all the strikers and I think we are improving. We will try to do better.”

At one stage this season, it looked as though Garnacho could be following Ronaldo out of the Old Trafford exit door.

He lost his way in the early weeks of Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim’s reign and was axed from the squad ahead of the Manchester derby in December for disciplinary reasons.

He has worked his way back into the manager’s good books since the autumn but has not hit double figures in terms of goals and assists this term.

Garnacho explained: “My first two months, November and December, were very difficult for me but my mentality is to keep working, to keep trying and show to the manager and staff I have to play.

“Obviously we have to work hard to be in the squad and then I have to train well every day and be available for all the games.

“I speak with Rasmus Hojlund a lot. We try to help each other.

“Sometimes, from this side, it’s difficult but we try hard, try harder every game to try to score more of these chances, and the team will improve if we score more goals.”

With Amorim sticking to his 3-4-3 formation, Garnacho admitted it has taken him a while to get used to it.

He said: “It’s difficult for everyone when, in the middle of the season, a new manager comes in and we change the formation.

“But we just need to improve every day. Obviously, the manager knows the characteristics of the players.

“What we try to do depends on the players we have and we are improving as a team also.”

Garnacho caught the eye in the 3-0 win against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames last week which has put them in such a commanding position.

And he has urged his team-mates to finish the job at Old Trafford and approach the Europa League semi-final second leg with the right mentality.

As well as a European trophy, it would give United a place in next season’s Champions League — which would be a huge boost for everyone.

It would also see Garnacho play in a competition that a certain 40-year-old veteran Portuguese winger lit up so often.

The Argentina international added: “We know we are not doing a great job in the Premier League but the manager said before, we follow the rules and, for us, it’s a final tomorrow.

“We are going to face the game like it’s 0-0 and try to win the game, not just the tie.

“If we win the Europa League, we will be in the Champions League and then we can face the next season with a better mentality and in a different way.”

    Going nowhere

Garnacho is planning to stay at United this summer.

But despite fears Red Devils will sell him to balance the books, Garnacho insists he is happy where he is.

Meanwhile Amorim says skipper Bruno Fernandes is not for sale despite renewed interest from Saudi Arabia.

Both players have been key to United’s run to the brink of the Europa League final.

Garnacho said: “As a footballer, you are always going to listen and hear some rumours about the future.

“But I have a contract here until 2028 so I’m happy here.”

A suitable offer for Garnacho would still be tempting for United despite his improved form in recent months.

He qualifies as a homegrown player meaning his sale would be huge in their bid to get in line with the Prem’s profit and sustainability rules.

By contrast, Fernandes has always been viewed as one of the few United players who are not for sale.

Al Hilal are preparing a lucrative £1M-A-WEEK bid to try to lure the Portuguese playmaker to the Middle East.

But Fernandes signed a new deal with United last year and is one of a handful of players who are not for sale by the club.

He showed his worth last week as his two goals helped the Red Devils take a healthy lead into the Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao.

Amorim said: “I think it is easy to understand his importance – not just because of the numbers but the way he plays, the importance that he has during his five years here.

“He is a top player, we need top players. He is a leader, he’s the captain, so he’s really important.

“It’s normal that a lot of clubs want a player like Bruno, like Garnacho, like others.

“But we want to keep the best players, and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world, so our idea didn’t change.

    “We want Bruno here.”

Al Nassr fans completely turn on Cristiano Ronaldo after spotting what he did during Al Ittihad defeat – Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo has been slammed by his own fans.

Al Nassr fans have completely turned on Cristiano Ronaldo after spotting what he did during their crushing defeat to Al Ittihad.

Al Nassr resumed their Saudi Pro League campaign following their AFC Champions League elimination to Kawasaki.

Ronaldo missed a huge chance in the 95th minute as his side were dumped out of the competition.

Their league dream is also now over following their bruising 3-2 defeat to rivals Al Ittihad.

Houssem Aouar scored a last-gasp winner to condemn Al Nassr to back-to-back defeats across all competitions.

Ronaldo, who failed to get on the score-sheet, cut a frustrated figure when Aouar netted in the 94th minute.

He could be seen throwing his hands up in disgust as he was criticised by Al Nassr fans on social media.

The ex-Manchester United star was branded a ‘crybaby’ as some supporters want him stripped of the captaincy.

One X user fumed: “Look at how our crybaby captain is acting man. CR7 is the worst thing to ever happen to Al Nassr. The ultras are demanding it. Get Cristiano Ronaldo out of my club. NOW.”

A second said: “Bro throwing his hands like he has done something this season.”

A third added: “Start with the armband…he doesn’t deserve the captaincy.”

Another commented: “He scammed Al Nassr for good 3 years over $900M.”

‘Wake up’ – Cristiano Ronaldo vents fury at Al Nassr teammates with frustrated gesture

Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to tell his Al Nassr teammates to wake up after they conceded a goal in their defeat to Al Ittihad.

A frustrated Ronaldo stood in the centre-circle gesturing to his teammates as he waited to kick-off.

Al Nassr threw away a 2-0 lead against Al Ittihad before going on to lose 3-2 with Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante on target for the visitors before Houssem Aouar got the winner in stoppage-time.

Sadio Mane had been on target for Nassr early in the first half.

The 40-year-old trudged back to the middle of the pitch with his head down before turning back to the rest of the Nassr team.

He threw his hands up in the air before making a sleeping gesture and shrugging his shoulders.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “He missed so many chances and still blames his teammates.”

Another said: “He is the one who should wake up.”

A third wrote: “How many times? Ronaldo looks furious with these Al-Nassr defensive lapses!”

Defeat has all-but ended Al Nassr’s faint hopes of winning the Saudi Pro League title. They are now 11 points behind Al Ittihad with just four games to go.

It has been a tough week for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as he looks set for another season without silverware for Al Nassr.

They were dumped out of the Asian Champions League by Japanese opponents Kawasaki Frontale last Wednesday.

Ronaldo missed a chance from six yards out during their 3-2 defeat.

He was then seen fuming with himself after the final whistle.

A dejected Ronaldo was seen venting and throwing his arms up in disbelief as he tried to make sense of the result.

Even if he does not add any silverware to him impressive career haul, it has been a strong individual season for him.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus star has 33 goals in all competitions.

He needs three more to reach a century of goals for the Saudi Pro League outfit.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo’s Son Shines – A New Chapter in Football’s Family Legacy

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Son Shines – A New Chapter in Football’s Family Legacy

Father-son duos in football are rare but iconic. In the English Premier League, Peter and Kasper Schmeichel stand out, both goalkeepers who played for Manchester United. Frank Lampard Sr. and Frank Lampard Jr. also made their mark, with the father playing for West Ham United and England, and the son becoming Chelsea’s all-time leading goal scorer with 211 goals, and latterly their head coach, twice.

Internationally, the Maldini family is legendary. Paolo Maldini and his father, Cesare, both captained Italy and AC Milan, with Paolo’s son Daniel continuing the legacy. In Iceland, Eidur Gudjohnsen replaced his father, Arnór, in a 1996 friendly match, a historic moment.

The Baresi brothers, Franco and Giuseppe, also shone for Italy, though they played for rival clubs, Inter and AC Milan. In Norway, Alf-Inge Haaland and his son Erling, now a Manchester City star, have both represented their country. These duos highlight the rarity and pride of family legacies in football.

Like Father, Like Son?  As Talented Or Nepotism?

Cristiano Jr.’s call-up to Portugal’s U15 team for the Vlatko Markovic Tournament in Croatia is a proud moment for Ronaldo. The 40-year-old, who captained Portugal to Euro 2016 glory, shared his joy on social media, posting, “Proud of you, son.” It’s a milestone that echoes his own rise from Sporting CP’s youth ranks.

While Cristiano Jr. has options to represent the USA or Spain due to his birthplace and residency, his current path with Portugal feels like destiny. Viral videos of him mimicking his father’s “Siu” celebration at Al-Nassr show a flair fans hope will match CR7’s. Yet, he’s carving his own story, not just living in his father’s shadow.

The Ronaldo family’s journey is a testament to talent and dedication. As Cristiano Jr. takes his first steps on the international stage, the football world watches eagerly. Will he follow his father’s record-breaking path? Only time will tell, but the legacy is already in motion.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 14-year-old son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, has earned his first call-up to Portugal’s Under-15 squad for the Vlatko Marković International Tournament in Croatia. The young forward, currently playing for Al-Nassr’s youth team, will represent Portugal from May 13 to May 18. The young striker affectionally known as Cristianinho, is one of 22 teenagers who have been listed for the squad by manager Joao Santos.Ronaldo Jr’s football journey mirrors his father’s, having progressed through the junior ranks of clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, and now Al-Nassr. The U15 squad will face teams like Japan, Greece, and England, with Ronaldo Jr potentially playing against England on May 16.

    Ronaldo Sr celebrates son’s call-up

Cristiano Ronaldo Sr expressed his pride on social media, reposting the announcement of Ronaldo Jr’s inclusion in the U15 squad. The Portugal captain celebrated his son’s achievement, sharing the news with his followers. Cristiano Ronaldo Sr has long expressed his desire to play alongside his son on the same pitch before retiring. Although he has acknowledged that this dream is in his son’s hands, stating that “it’s more in his hands than mine,” Ronaldo Sr has made it clear that he would be incredibly proud if they were ever able to share the field together. However, he has also noted that the timing will depend on Ronaldo Jr’s ambitions, as well as his own physical and mental readiness to continue playing at the top level

    Ronaldo Jr’s rising football career

At just 14, Ronaldo Jr has already achieved several remarkable milestones. He captained Al-Nassr’s U13 team to victory in the Saudi U13 Premier League earlier this year. Additionally, Ronaldo Jr reportedly scored 58 goals in one season at Juventus and played alongside Wayne Rooney’s son, Kai, during his time at Manchester United’s youth academy.Although he was born in San Diego, California, Ronaldo Jr opted to represent Portugal rather than the United States or Spain, choosing to follow in his father’s footsteps. His decision was influenced by his father’s legendary status with the Portugal national team.

Portugal faces strong competition in Croatia

The Vlatko Marković International Tournament will provide stiff competition for Portugal’s U15 team. In addition to England, the squad will face Japan and Greece. The tournament will serve as a key opportunity for Portugal’s youth team to showcase their talent on an international stage.Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo Sr, who celebrated his 40th birthday in February, is preparing for Portugal’s own international commitments. Ronaldo will lead Portugal in the UEFA Nations League semifinals against Germany on June 4. As Ronaldo Sr continues to represent his country at the highest level, Ronaldo Jr begins his journey with the Portugal youth team.

Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham warned against ‘insane’ Cristiano Ronaldo transfer

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been warned to avoid overspending on a “marquee signing” ahead of their move to the Championship, and the subsequent push for the Premier League

Wrexham’s rise to global prominence under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could yet be turbocharged should the Red Dragons opt to bring in a superstar or two to boost their impending push for Premier League soccer.

Recently promoted to the Championship, Wrexham’s third promotion in as many years, the Welsh side has been linked with numerous high-profile players such as Jamie Vardy, Raheem Sterling, and Jonny Evans. However, while some may be tempted to push for a marquee signing, from a financial perspective, and perhaps arguably also that of locker room stability, some believe this is not the way to go.

“I get the impression that [Reynolds and McElhenney] are taking things very seriously and want to get Wrexham into the Premier League,” Welsh comedian and radio host Elis James told William Hill Sport Book of the Year.

READ MORE: Carli Lloyd apologizes to USWNT teammates for how she treated themREAD MORE: David Beckham identifies soccer superstar who ‘could be as good as Lionel Messi’

“The idea of a marquee signing like Cristiano Ronaldo would be incredible for the social media profile of the club, but the costs involved would be utterly insane and I’m sure there’s far more sensible ways of spending their money.

“Because they’re Hollywood stars with amazing wealth, when you see the stories in the press about potential superstar signings from bigger clubs, there could always be a kernel of truth in it.

“I personally don’t think that’s the way to go for them, though. [Head coach] Phil Parkinson is doing a great job so surely they’ll keep doing what they’re doing.”

Previously linked with a return to the English soccer pyramid with Wrexham as a player, or potentially even an investor, Manchester United legend Ronaldo currently stars for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. Currently earning in the region of $4 million per week, it’s safe to say that the Red Dragons would not be able to offer anything even remotely competitive with this salary were they to shock the soccer world and make a move for the Portuguese icon.

Forgetting the glaring salary stumbling block, there is also the fact that Parkinson has made his stance on signing superstars crystal clear following their latest promotion.

“What we’ve always tried to do is make sure the culture in the club is right and I think that’s key – no superstars, no egos in the dressing room and we’ve got to try and get that balance right again,” he said, via ESPN. “You always need extra quality when you go up a level to make sure the right people come into the building.”

Raising the quality of players available without upsetting the apple cart will be no mean feat, especially when it comes to bigger names and the blogger egos that often accompany them. But Parkinson appears confident that the Wrexham front office is up for the challenge ahead of the team’s first season in the English second-tier since 1982.

“I think everybody knows the jump [to the Championship] is huge,” Parkinson said. “I remember when I took Bolton up, it was [exhales] ‘This is huge!” in terms of the physicality and power in the division.

“But I’m confident we will be well prepared for that. I think that a lot of tough decisions will be made this summer, in terms of who we bring in and how we add to this fantastic squad of lads we’ve got, but let’s see if we can build a squad to compete at that level.”

As for James, he, too, believes that Wrexham is in safe hands moving into the latest chapter of their remarkable transformation, praising Reynolds and McElhenney for their approach to ownership since taking over for $2.5 million in 2021.

“Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have gone about things the right way and have been very respectful to the area, the traditions of the club and the Welsh language,” he said, “They’ve done great things, and football is a sport with a lot of terrible owners but I’d never put those two in that bracket.”

Florent Malouda Not a Fan of Lamine Yamal’s Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Comparisons

Lamine Yamal has been drawing comparisons with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi due to his performances for Barcelona this season. While Barca got knocked out of the UEFA Champions League semi-final stages, Yamal shone bright during the game and continued challenging the Nerazzuri defence.

Yamal has been sensational this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 24 assists in 51 appearances across competitions. He is one of the best players in the world, and many think the Spaniard is head and shoulders above greats like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when they were that age.

Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda, though, isn’t a fan of the comparisons as he thinks that could take away from Yamal’s shine and personality. Speaking to RACING TIPSTER, Malouda said:

That’s too much right now, and that’s also in a kind of way erasing his own personality. He’s probably inspired by a mix of both, but you can see has his own touch. He has his own personality. Of course he’s still young, but so experienced. I’m not sure that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi did what he did at his age.

    Malouda added:

Now it’s more about longevity and how he not only maintains this level but improves. We will be able to compare the three players if he sets goals to achieve and is able to maximise his talent. He should not be just happy with what he’s doing because now it feels like he’s comfortable. If he sets himself a high standard that matches his talent, I think he can be compared to those two, who are in a league of their own. But there’s a lot of years and games ahead of him to confirm he can meet his potential.

Yamal and Barcelona are fighting with Real Madrid for the La Liga title this season. The Spanish giants clash in the El Clasico on May 11 at the Estadi Lluis Companys.
